Xehanort

Xehanort, the Seeker of Darkness

"All worlds begin in darkness, and all so end. The heart is no different. Darkness sprouts within it, grows, consumes it. Such is its nature. In the end, every heart returns to the darkness whence it came. You see, darkness is the heart's true essence."

Wind Blades - Executed only with the Guardian. Ansem laughs evilly as his protector throws blades of wind energy at his enemies.

"Submit!" - Ansem's Guardian strikes an opponent and possesses him.

Freeze - After the possession, the Guardian will sometimes stop the person it possessed in his/her tracks.

Rockshatter - Executed only with the Guardian. Ansem and the Guardian are encased in dark energy, allowing them to charge forth and ram into any of their opponents.

Dark Shadow - Ansem is surrounded by a white aura and sends his Guardian into the ground. It will emerge and strike the enemies with dark energy while Ansem taunts. It will strike multiple times until its master calls it back. When it does return to Ansem, he blasts his opponents with dark lightning.

After merging with Oroboros

Laser Orbs - When merged with Ra and the Oroboros, Ansem summons orbs of dark energy that blasts his enemies with laser.

Summon Dark Bats - When merged with Ra and the Oroboros, Ansem summons multiple, small Heartless bats to do his bidding.

Oroboros Cannon - When merged with Ra and the Oroboros, Ansem raises his halberd in the air and has Ra suck up the darkness and anything else in the area. After a few seconds of doing this, he commands the god to blast at his opponents with the God Blaze Cannon mixed with the powers of darkness.

Background Story

Ansem was once the ruler of Hollow Bastion, the place that the Mavericks use as their base. As a researcher and ruler of his world, he studied the Heartless and

delved into the many secrets of the worlds. While studying the heart and the darkness within it, he was possessed by darkness and ultimately destroyed his own world. He sacrificed his body to attain great power. Ansem sought out Kingdom Hearts, originally, the "heart of all worlds", to release the darkness within and obtain the knowledge he had sought. In "Freiheit," he desired the world to be blanketed in darkness.

In "Dämmerung," it's revealed this man named "Ansem" is really Xehanort.

Xehanort was a student of Ansem the Wise. He was found in the paradise world of Radiant Garden by Ansem the Wise, a respected sage and the ruler of the world. Xehanort possessed no memory of his life before this. Ansem took Xehanort in and he became Ansem's foremost apprentice. Xehanort was described by Ansem as having abilities so remarkable that they could be considered supernatural.

Eventually, Ansem began to worry about the darkness that lingers within the hearts of others and sought a way to stop it before it consumed his people. Ansem, at the suggestion of Ienzo constructed a laboratory under his castle where he, Xehanort, and Ansem's five other assistants would conduct experiments on darkness. Xehanort, who Ansem now fully trusts as an apprentice and friend, offered to use himself in the experiments. Ansem also hoped to unlock Xehanort's memories in addition to uncovering a way to repress the darkness within hearts. Xehanort had other plans in mind though.

Xehanort and the other five apprentices began to carry out their own experiments. They abducted countless people and locked them within the depths of the laboratory. Xehanort then conducted horrible experiments on the subjects. This eventually led to the creation of creatures of darkness, which Xehanort named "The Heartless". At this point, Xehanort had taken Ansem's name as his own and wrote his own report under this stolen name. Xehanort took one of the heartless aside and observed its' behavior.

The heartless began to move throughout the castle until a door appeared. Xehanort was somehow able to open it and this led to the collapse of the world's boundaries, which was seen in the form of a meteor shower. Xehanort eventually deduced that the door actually led to the heart of that world. The opening of the door led to the collapse of the walls between worlds. This allowed inter-dimensional travel and eventually an anonymous visitor showed up.

Ansem ceased the research when the visitor told him of the immorally of what he was doing, however Ansem had no idea that Xehanort had went further then he himself even dared. He ordered Xehanort and the others to seal off the laboratory and cease the experiments.

The experiments continued including the creation of a machine that created artificial heartless. The visitor suspected something odd about Xehanort and told Ansem to check his lab to insure that the experiments had indeed ceased. Ansem did so and learned that Xehanort had taken his name as his own and wrote a detailed report. From the report, Ansem learned of the horrible torture inflicted on people by the inhumane experiments that Xehanort had inflicted them on.

Xehanort and the others banished Ansem to the world of nothingness and ravaged the world with heartless. He made the final pages of his report which outlined his intentions as well as the heartless. The heartless seek to consume the hearts of all living things. However, they not only seek human hearts, but the hearts of the worlds themselves. Their ultimate goal is to collect enough hearts to form the biggest heart of all, the heart in which all that is evolved from; Kingdom Hearts. Xehanort decided to use the Heartless' instincts to make his own plans. He would find Kingdom Hearts in order to gain ultimate power, control, and knowledge.

Xehanort and the others eventually gave themselves to the darkness to gain the ability to control all heartless and wield the powers of darkness. They lost their hearts in the process and they became powerful nobodies. Since they possessed strong hearts, Xehanort and his followers were able to retain their human forms while nobodies. Radiant Garden was almost completely destroyed, savior the castle, and its' people were wiped out.

Freiheit ~ Season Four - "The Maverick Invasion"

Black Heart City arc

Ansem is the main antagonist in season four. Though he didn't physically appear, his voice would be heard along with Bakura Ryou's. He appeared before Redda, still in Bakura's body, and made the fallen angel his new slave. He would then possess Redda, waiting for the Toran Army to arrive. Once they did, he revealed that the Winged Dragon of Ra was hiding in the heart of one pure. He thought Drake had the god inside him, but his theory was proven wrong when he tried to open his heart. He would force Redda to battle against the leader of the Toran Army in a one-on-one duel. When it seemed like victory was in his grasp, Bakura would drive Drake's blade through the fallen angel and killed him. Ansem would return to his original host. He wanted to keep his true identity consealed in Glenn's body until Ishizu Ishtar, the owner of the Millennium Necklace, revealed him to the Toran Army. He couldn't maintain his disguise anymore and shed it. Ansem reveals to Drake and the rest of the Toran Army that Glenn desired the power to defend the Pendragon family. He couldn't enter his body unless the young man allowed. Opportunity struck after he was left for dead after being assaulted by Evolution (Triple H, Ric Flair, and Randy Orton). He appears before Glenn in the form of a broken old man who wanted help. He used his powers of manipulation to let the young man into his heart. Since then, Glenn became the host of Ansem's darkness and form.

The Seeker of Darkness would take control of Glenn's base, Gehktus, showing that he was behind the Maverick operation the entire time. As the Toran Army entered his lair, he was attacked by Drake. He could've killed him if he knew for sure that the Winged Dragon of Ra wasn't in his heart. He then challenges the Toran Army, whomever had Net Navis, into his Net World, the Black Heart City, in a battle royal. The rules were that if a Maverick challenges a member of the Toran Army to a battle, they must accept. They battle until they are unable to fight anymore or if their opponent is dead. The winner would obtained a Dark Keyblade to drive out the loser's heart, and with it, the last remaining god. Like any normal villain, Ansem stayed on the sidelines and watched as his enemies made their way through the Net World with ease. After each Maverick was defeated, he sent his most prized warriors, Saseko and Bass, to finally drive out the final god. Almost an hour later, Ra would be in Ansem's hands at long last.

Even with the god in his possession, Ansem still wanted to play with the Toran Army. He ordered Saseko to capture Usagi, the person who had the Winged Dragon of Ra in her heart, and bring her to his fortress in the Net World, Tynghacc. The assassin did her job well, and even managed to get Drake to come to their side. After Saseko loses Drake, Ansem sends the Big Five after the Toran Army. He didn't want them to reach Tynghacc and save Usagi, not yet. He had the former Kaiba Corp. executives fight them while the Mavericks reconstructed their Net Navis into unstoppable killing machines. It wouldn't be long before the Toran Army entered Tynghacc. While the others battled the Mavericks and their Navis, Miranda lead Max and Dynamo to Ansem's lair. There, he sent a now possessed Usagi after them. Usagi, once defeated, fights against Ansem's darkness and wins back her heart by rejecting him out of her body. Drake had the perfect opportunity to destroy the weakened Black Heart general until Bass appeared wanting vengeance. Having everything he needed, Ansem disappeared with Usagi, saying that his section of the Net World would self-destruct within an hour.

As the Black Heart City exploded, the Toran Army escaped from the doomed city and back to Gehktus in the computer world. Once there, Ansem had the Mavericks kidnap both Chibi-Usa and Nora. These two would be sacrifices, along with Usagi, to bring forth the Oroboros, and with it the darkness it holds. The new base of operations would be in Dynud, a section of Dark Hill/Sanzemica that Mahna refused to go to. Ansem didn't have much time to work with the ritual when the Toran Army arrived. The Mavericks were used as a distraction to stop them from entering the Dynud temple at all costs. The ritual was near completion until Drake interrupted it. From there, Ansem teleported everyone to an area in the computer world that resembled Dynud before it was destroyed. There, he appeared before them in the form of Glenn. Drake saw through the disguise and the Seeker of Darkness battled the Star Warriors. He defeated them all, except Drake, keeping him alive to torture him with thoughts and memories of Glenn. It wasn't enough. Drake fought back and blasted him with a Starlight Sword Disaster attack.

Ansem managed to survive the attack and was ready to finish the ritual to summon Oroboros. Unfortunately for him, Usagi, Chibi-Usa, and Nora had awakened in time to escape. However, Breck Losnar, Jackie Cricketts, and Adam Pyro, three of the Mavericks, volunteered to be used for the ritual. Ansem gladly accepted their offer and used them as sacrifices. The Millennium Items were destroyed, and with them the darkness of Oroboros was released. Merged with the darkness, Ansem became one with the Winged Dragon of Ra and challenged the Toran Army to a final battle. The Star Warriors accepted for everyone and charged. Drake went straight for the Seeker of Darkness and the two clashed.

The two would battle until Max pulled Drake away to battle the other gods. Ansem rested inside Ra to recover his lost strength. After Obelisk and Slifer were destroyed, he would emerge again for the real battle. The Star Warriors battled against not just him, but the Winged Dragon of Ra and the Oroboros. He would soon be defeated by Drake, who plunges his sword through his chest.

Unfortunately, Ansem survived the attack and still wanted to merge with Oroboros' darkness completely. Before the process was complete, Glenn rejected Ansem and the darkness he longed for. He was able to say his final words to Drake before telling him to reforge the Millennium Items and banish evil forever. The leader of the Toran Army agreed and sacrificed himself to bring back the items. Upon their reforging, Ansem and the Oroboros were banished back into the darkness of time, never to be seen again.

Freiheit Fifth Movie ~ Castle of Broken Dreams

Glenn's Story

In "The Castle of Broken Dreams", Ansem makes a final stand to take control of Glenn, who had been trapped in the dream world and entered the castle, where his resolve to find Corey is questioned as he fights to determine the nature of himself and his heart. It is revealed that what remained of Ansem lay within Glenn. If Glenn is not careful, he would succumb to the darkness within him and allow Ansem to take control of him again. Zexion realizes that Glenn shares a scent similar to the "Superior" and, along with Lexaeus, planned to take control of the boy to counter Marluxia's plans with Corey. Attempts to drown him in darkness and then overwhelm him with light both fail, in part because of the spirit of Drake, who has become Glenn's guiding light and companion, and Winona, a young woman caught in the middle of the Organization's plan, to give him hope. Winona offers to lock away Ansem, but Glenn refuses because he believes that he must face his fears and confront them head on rather than run.

While Ansem attempted to take control of Glen again, he takes on a corporeal form within the Castle of Broken Dreams. He is defeated, though as Glenn reveals, his darkness still lingers inside his heart. Glenn leaves the fortress with the intention of ensuring all traces of Ansem are eliminated.

Dämmerung - The Missing Year

Ansem, or Xehanort, reappears in Dämmerung, still haunting Glenn's memories. As it reveals, it is the man named DiZ that keeps him at bay. Should Glenn give himself to darkness, Xehanort reappears to try to claim him. After learning the truth of Xehanort, Glenn becomes unafraid of him. He challenges the man to a one-on-one battle in his mind to which he defeats him. However, the price for accepting the darkness forced Glenn into a transformation where he would become Xehanort at any time he desired.
