Background Information
Willis, a year or two before he met Drake, was once a normal kid in New York. He tried to create a Digi-Egg by himself, and created Terriermon and Lopmon. However, Lopmon would become infected with a virus. The two would meet again years later when Willis became twelve...
At that time, T.K. and Kari are in New York City taking a picture but are having trouble then Kari senses something. The attention turns to Willis and Terriermon, who engages in a battle with Wendigomon, who keeps telling Willis to "go back," and loses. Willis and Terriermon journey to Colorado while Kari e-mails Davis Motomiya to inform him of Willis. After taking planes and taxis, they end up meeting Willis in a truck while Kari and T.K. literally get derailed by Wendigomon. Willis tries to get Davis, Yolei Inoue and Cody Hida a lift to his house. The ride leaves without Willis and Davis, who encounter Wendigomon which leads to a battle between him, Flamedramon and Gargomon, Terriermon's Champion form. Before anyone is defeated, Wendigomon disappears, repeating his cryptic message, "go back." Davis and Willis meet up with Yolei and Cody who told Davis that Kari And T.K. aren't here (to Davis's disappointment). Willis doubts that they'll come at all if Wendigomon interfered. After the kids question his knowledge about Wendigomon, Willis reveals he created him but regrets saying so and storms off, while being followed by Davis. Willis reveals the story about Wendigomon. Davis offers to help with the rest of the kids and their Digimon. Terriermon overhears the conversation (blaming it on his "really big ears") and offers to help. Willis refuses his help out of concern for his safety but Terriermon talks him into letting him. At Willis's lake, Wendigomon reappears, as expected, but digivolves to Antylamon. He swiftly evades the attacks of Gargomon, Flamedramon, Halsemon and Digmon and throws all the Digimon around like rag dolls. Antylamon sinks into the lake (and changes the scenery), and rises again, but as Kerpymon. He then de-digivolves all the Digimon. However, they still try to fight, but to no avail, as Kerpymon grabs them and is about to eat them when Angemon and Angewomon cut off his arms and T.K. and Kari show up. Kerpymon changes the scenery again and de-ages the Digidstined, revealing that he wanted Willis to "go back" in time to when the virus attacked him. Angewomon and Angemon digivolve to their Mega forms, Magnadramon and Seraphimon, to release two Golden Digi-Eggs for Willis and Davis. Veemon and Terriermon Golden Armor Digivolve to Magnamon and Rapidmon who get sucked into Kerpymon. Inside they see Wendigomon who tells them to destroy the virus. Doing so purifies Kerpymon, who soon dies. After saying goodbye to his new friends, Willis and Terriermon walk back home, and notice the Digi-Egg that will hatch into Conomon, Kokomon's Fresh form.
Willis was able to communicate with the DigiDestined because a Japanese girlfriend taught him Japanese. He is especially friendly to girls and flirts with them (preferably Yolei); on the other hand, he is the exact opposite towards Davis Motomiya. While Willis considered Davis strange and rude, Davis found Willis arrogant, which struck a friction between the boys. When Willis revealed how he did not have the heart to fight Kokomon, Davis sympathized with him and promised to fight for him. Although Willis and Davis become friends, there are still points at time where Willis would mock him.
Season Two - Wirusu Attack
Mojuro and Tatakya Arc
Willis was dragged into the war against the Black Hearts when he intercepted a strange e-mail that was headed to Toran Castle. Because of it, he became possessed by the Wirusu King, while at the same time inherited the Star Life. It was unknown to him that he had it, which was why it took the king so long to possess him. He contacted the Toran Army for assistance. As soon as he did, he was attacked by a Wirusu, Regem. The Star Life was pulled from his body, but Kid quickly recovered it for him. Willis joined the Toran Army to help them get rid of the Wirusu once and for all.
Strangely enough, Willis began to detect whenever a wild Wirusu was spawned by Mojuro and Tatakya. This proved to be a big help in the war against this new enemy. Little did they know Willis using this power would slowly let his heart be consumed by darkness. This was demonstrated when he blasted a twin Wirusu, Ataro and Natamo. Willis continued to try to help in anyway he could, but the king's hold on him was growing stronger and stronger. Before Leknaat could temporarily seal him away, Willis (now fully possessed by the king) attacks and wounds Drake, leaving the Toran Army vulnerable to attack. He was then sealed and put in cryostasis.
Even though Willis was sealed away, he still assisted the Toran Army. With help from the Star Life, he could project himself to help them. He proved to be a big help against the nightmare Wirusu, Ojike, but projecting himself in Drake's mind to help Aya and her team exorcise her. He also leads Drake and the rest of the Toran Army to Mojuro's castle where they could finally end the crisis. Afterward, Willis was released from his prison, now no longer possessed.
Bastian Arc
Though the Wirusu Crystal was destroyed, Willis was still a target for the Wirusu. With help from Setsuna and Drake, Willis was finally able to draw upon the Star Life inside him by praying. Because of that, Drake could advance onto a new level of strength, Star Drake. The effects are temporary, since Willis needs the Star Life to live. Kimmeria, the wirusu princess, realizes this as a threat and does whatever she can to get it away from him, even trying to pose as his mother. No matter what happened, Willis would get through the deception and all the attempts, and help Drake and his friends.
One day, while hanging out with Drake, King, and Lebia, a cybernetic monster, Keiri, from three-hundred years in the future attacks. Somehow Willis knew that it was coming, mainly because of the Wirusu king calling it. Before it could strike, Bastian saved them from being killed. During Bastian's story of how the world dies, it is revealed because of Willis fully succumbing to the king's darkness that everything the Toran Army would fight for is in vain. Hearing this, Willis loses all confidence and wishes to die. He changes his mind after hearing Bastian's story on how he was cursed with the Soul Eater centuries previously. When it seemed like the two would become good friends, the king emerged from Willis' body and into Bastian, claiming its mission was half-ways complete. It was here that Willis thought the Star Life was gone.
Even without the Star Life or the king, Willis still proved to be a useful fighter. He could still detect where Sin Warriors were. Somehow the Star's light could still reach Drake, King, and Lebia when they needed it. After defeating two of the seven sins, Willis and his Digimon discovered a portal to the sin's realm accidentally. By entering it, he learns the origin of the sins, and they still recognize him as their king. He takes the Sin Crystals and even helps dispose of the Sin of Sloth in the process. Now with all the sins defeated, Willis further learned more on the Sins and their final conquest. After hearing it, he would receive a threatening message from Bastian to return the crystals to him or he would kill Drake, King, and Lebia. Knowing he had no choice, he gave them to the man he thought he could befriend. The Toran Army, though, appeared and helped save their captured friends. Usagi had wounded Kagami, a mirror monster, at the time. Willis learns that the monster was in fact the future version of Kristin, Bastian's mother.
Willis knew Drake didn't want to give up hope and encouraged him to keep fighting. While the Toran Army battled the sins' true form, Kenji the Archangel, Lucca discovered Willis still had viral energy inside of him. It wouldn't be until Drake saved Bastian, who died immediately afterward, Willis would discover that the king, Diaboromon, was using the Star Life to further evolve into Armageddemon. All Willis could do was watch helplessly as Drake struggled to battle the Dark King. He sheds a tear, which forms into the Star Life. Using its light, and empowering the Soul Eater, both him and Drake completely vaporize Armageddemon. Thinking they both died, Willis and Drake say they have no regrets, knowing they saved everyone. However, Leknaat assures them that because the Soul Eater was accompanied by the Radiant Star's shard, they would both live on.
The Toran Army would wish Willis luck in the future and form one day they would meet again. Before Willis heads back to his home, he apologizes to Drake for not telling him sooner he still had the king inside him. He is forgiven and he leaves with a smile.
Season Six - Tempus Edax Rerum
Tree of Life Arc
Willis finally returns after five years of rest and relaxation. He is visited by Kid, Aya, and Serge, who ask for his assistance in the Reforging Ceremony of the Radiant Star. Willis was pleased to join as long as it meant being reunited with Drake, King, and Lebia. However, the three would have to tell him that they had all died in battle. They didn't tell him because they thought it would lower his confidence and he wouldn't wish to join them again. Instead, it makes Willis more motivated to join them. After reuniting with the Digimon Children: Davis, Kari, TK, Yolei, Ken, and Cody, Willis returned to the Toran Army.
The first order of business he had to have done upon his return was allow Luc to draw the Star Life out of him using a secret Harmonian ritual. The ritual itself was painful and it almost felt as though it would kill him. However, Willis' cries and the interfering of a Star Shard caused a Time Distortion to occur, thus summoning the four wolves Kiba, Hige, Tsume, and Toboe. Willis became unconscious once the ritual was finished.
Days later, or so it seemed, Deis would perform another ritual on him to guide the Star Life out on its own. Even so, another distortion occured, one that would make Ulrich revert to his human form. It seemed the extracting was becoming more and more of a lost cause. This wasn't the cause once Willis entered Yggdrasil. Here he was captured by the Mad Hatter. Through a very torturous process, the Hatter was able to rip the Star Life out of Willis' body. Everyone thought Willis would die since he no longer had the Star Life, but somehow he was able to live on. After the Hatter's defeat, Willis would get the Star Life back, but he wouldn't let it become part of him again.
Eve of the Climax
On the night before the final battle, Willis is seen in the game room with the other Digimon Children, Mai, Spyro, and Savannah.

Willis doesn't reappear in this arc until the final confrontation against Xadron. He leads the Digimon Children into a bloody onslaught on the Nobody, unleashing all of their most powerful attacks they could use.
In the conclusion, Willis is seen in the game room with the other Digimon Children, Sailor Senshi, Miku, Savannah, Spyro, and Mai.
