Special Attacks

Flame Pillar - Sephiroth raises his left hand in the air, then shouts "Cower!" Suddenly, pillars of fire erupt from the ground in all directions around him. In season six, when he performs this technique, he can pull an enemy into the pillars instead of letting them think they have the upperhand.

Descend Heartless Angel / Sin Harvest - The first time Sephiroth performs this technique, he stands in place and forms a halo with his left hand. The halo appears over his opponents and saps their strength completely from their bodies. He doesn't use this unless it's a last resort. In season six, when he performs this technique, he levitates into the air and holds out his left hand. Dark energy surges through it and the sequence begins. He does not have to form a halo with his hand this time.

Omnislash - Similar to Cloud's version, except he performs more slashes than his counterpart. When he slashes the enemy about twenty times, he slams his Masamune down hard.

Darkness Ball - Sephiroth summons balls of darkness around him to attack his foes.

Meteor Shower - Should Sephiroth feel it necessary he will summon a meteor shower on his foes. When a few meteors hit the planet, he throws a giant meteor covered in white flames.

Sin Angel - Sephiroth stands on one side of the battlefield and the area darkens. He cries out "That's enough!" before attacking his enemy with lightning quick speed. The people who have survived this attack, if anyone, tells that Sephiroth rushes at them, pulls out his sword at the last minute, and slashes at them once.

Unite Attacks

Cloud: Forever Rivals ~ Sephiroth and Cloud look at each other, then glare. Sephiroth stands on the left, while Cloud stands on the right. They fly at the enemy, almost resembling a two-headed angel, and slash away at it. After a few slashes, they separate and perform an x-slash maneuver.

Harle: Eternal Eclipse ~ Sephiroth and Harle invoke their powers over the sun and moon, causing a solar eclipse to occur. While the enemies are distracted, the two Guardians attack them with blind speed and pure ferocity.

Corra: Sun Phoenix ~ Sephiroth chuckles and flips back his hair. He fades away from sight afterwards. Corra ignites into her phoenix form and proceeds to attack the foes with her flames. When she's done enough damage, Sephiroth appears from one of her flames and ends the onslaught with a few slashes from his sword. Corra stunned afterwards.

Oshria: For the Princess ~ Oshria gets in a praying position and chants an incantation. Sephiroth places his hand on his forehead and looks upward. A white aura surrounds him and enters her. Oshria expels the energy given to her to heal her allies and purify them of any status effects. Sephiroth and Oshria stunned afterwards.

Cloud, Corra, and Harle: Guardian Formation ~ The four Guardians stand in a diamond formation around the enemies, then hold their hands/wings out toward them. First, the sun is visible, then Sephiroth swings his now flaming sword at the enemies. The moon appears next, Harle continuing the attack with a few of her darts/cards. The earth appears next and Corra blasts at the enemies with fireballs. Last is the starlit night sky, where Cloud strikes with his Buster Sword. When all is done, a four-way split screen appears, showing all the guardians unleashing their attacks.

Background Information

Sephiroth is estimated to have been born around 30 years before the start of his story (exact year left unknown) to Professor Hojo and Lucrecia of Shinra, two researchers involved in the "Jenova Project," a study of the remains of a being known as Jenova. Wishing to study the effects of Jenova's cells on a human subject, Hojo and Lucrecia volunteered their unborn son for experimentation, who was henceforth injected with Jenova cells while still within the womb. After his birth, Sephiroth was raised by Shinra, having been told that a "Jenova" was his mother, but with no knowledge of who or what Jenova was. With superhuman abilities gained from the Jenova Project experiments, Sepiroth showed inhuman strength and speed at an early age, Sephiroth became an elite member in SOLDIER, with the highlight of his career in the Midgar-Wutai war.

A year after the war, during a mission to investigate a Mako reactor at Nibelheim, Sephiroth discovered his horrifying origins as an experiment and integral role in the Jenova Project. This information corrupted him and drove him insane, after which he destroyed the town and went to the reactor to release his "mother."

Zack, a fellow 1st-Class SOLDIER, pursued Sephiroth and arrived at the reactor in an attempt to stop him, only to be soundly defeated by his former comrade. While finally liberating Jenova, Sephiroth was caught off-guard and stabbed from behind by Cloud, who was armed with Zack's Buster Sword and a thirst for vengeance for what Sephiroth did to his home. Alive, although greatly weakened, Sephiroth exited the chamber carrying the severed head of Jenova. Cloud attempted to finish him off, and the resulting fight ended with Sephiroth falling off the gangway and into the Lifestream below.

Presumably thought dead, Sephiroth traveled the Lifestream, learning the truth of Jenova's nature, before ending up in the Northern Cave sealed in Mako while absorbing Jenova's head and the wisdom of the Cetra. Sephiroth hatched a plot to absorb, though physically unable, the planet's energy, and thus turning himself into a god.

Notions of Sephiroth's apparent death were put to question when Cloud and company were detained in Shin-Ra's headquarters. On the eve before a public execution, they escaped, aided by a mysterious third party who had devastated the facility. Cloud found the President assassinated, impaled by a sword he confirmed belonged to Sephiroth. However, "Sephiroth" was actually Jenova's body taken over by Sephiroth's will and remolded in his image as his puppet in order to find and retrieve the "Sephiroth Clones", individuals who had undergone the same cell injection procedure as Sephiroth to prove Hojo's Jenova Reunion Theory.

Sephiroth's goal, revealed later in the Temple of the Ancients, was to drain the planet of its energy with the aid of the Black Materia and its cataclysmic power referred to as Meteor. Aerith Gainsborough, the last Cetra, attempted to stop him with the White Materia and its defensive power, Holy. Though Aerith succeeded in summoning Holy, Sephiroth appeared and killed her before she could fully activate it, leaving the White Materia active but unused. Cloud procured the Black Materia, but was emotionally manipulated against his will into relieving ownership of it to Sephiroth, who then cast Meteor and awaited its arrival within a sealed Northern Crater.

In the story's climax, the barrier was penetrated by Shinra's Sister Ray cannon, thus allowing Cloud and the rest of AVALANCHE to descend into the Northern Crater to confront him. He first appeared to them as Bizzaro Sephiroth, before he molted out of his cocoon as Safer Sephiroth. With the destruction of his physical body, Sephiroth's spirit made a final mental assault upon Cloud within the Lifestream, attempting to overcome his will yet again and claim Cloud's body as his own. However, Cloud had already rediscovered himself and thus his inner strength had grown to the point where Sephiroth no longer had any influence over him. After an intense battle, Cloud finally overpowered Sephiroth, and banished his spirit back into the depths of the Lifestream.

Sephiroth's story in "Freiheit" reveals he had been alive even before the events of "Final Fantasy VII." He had been protecting Sanzemica for centuries in their time. When the videogame was released, he lost all memory of his time in Sanzemica. It wasn't until reuniting with Oshria that his blood memory would shortly return.

Season Three - Oshria's Story

Warriors of the Dark Elements Arc

When Harmony, the Warrior of the Dark Earth, attacks the Toran Army for the first time, Sephiroth appears to save them. He tells them, however, he's not there to join them, only to get the pendant around Oshria's neck. He instantly becomes a threat upon stating this. In reality, his blood memory was wanting to awaken, and the only way it could was if he was in the pendant's light. For a while, during Harmony's reign, Sephiroth was an enemy to the Toran Army, even to Oshria. It wasn't until King was brutally slaughtered that he decided to purposely help the Toran Army. This would be the only time this season he did. The day after he assisted them, Harle was injured by Harmony's Sasori monster. He entered the Dark Fortress in rage, but the Dark Lord was expecting him. Sephiroth was captured, crucified, and beaten to a bloody pulp by the Black Hearts inside. Once Harle, Oshria, and the Toran Army come to his rescue, Sephiroth sacrifices the last of his energy to re-energize Oshria's pendant. In doing so, not only does he help destroy Sasori, but he fades from existence afterwards.

Sephiroth would appear before Harle when she sleeps, trying to convince her she must protect Oshria no matter what.

Rescue Oshria Arc

Though he's still dead, he appears in a daydream Drake has when his birthday rolls around. Sephiroth, with help from Oshria, Corra, and the Star Warriors, would find his way back to the world of the living. In doing so, his revival helps bring Myotismon to his death. Now with his blood memory restored, Sephiroth knows what he must do, to help purify the land. He stays with Oshria, Harle, Corra, and Cloud to accomplish this task.

Movie 3 - The Darkness of D-Reaper

Sephiroth appears with his Guardians and Oshria to defend the computer world from the D-Reaper agents. After the D-Reaper is defeated, he returns to Dark Hill with his companions.

Season Five - Cult of the Watchers

Cult of the Watchers Arc

Sephiroth, along with the Guardians and Oshria, appears in season five in the final episodes. They have purified the final area of Dark Hill, but it becomes corrupted again once the queen-beast descends upon it. With only twenty minutes to survive, Sephiroth assists the Star Warriors, the Guardians, Oshria, and Shion's team to block out the queen-beast's deadly song. However, even together, they aren't able to stop it. Their "savior" comes to them in the form of Albedo, who blindly kills the queen-beast when he attempted to kill Yuber. With Dark Hill completely purified, Sephiroth rejoins the Toran Army and returns to Toran with them all. During the credits, Sephiroth sees the shooting star, showing that the Radiant Star will soon be reforged.

Movie 5 - Castle of Broken Dreams

In the beginning of the movie, Sephiroth, along with the Guardians, learn of Drake's demise a year before. He's the one who makes Glenn, now possessed by Saseko, to reveal the Spirit Bowl that kept Karasu imprisoned. Even with his mighty strength, the darkness of Saseko and Karasu pushes him back.

He appears in Corey's memory chamber of Sanzemica, but he doesn't hear nor see him.

Season Six - Tempus Edax Rerum

Tree of Life Arc

Sephiroth and the Guardians are more concerned about the whereabouts of the final Star Shard, the Star Spear, at first. During their meeting, they are interrupted by the scream of Manah. It's Sephiroth and Cloud that prevent Luc from killing the child. He then tells Mahna about the reforging of the star coming soon, and that the 108 Stars of Destiny being gathered might help them. After the first time distortion, the Guardian try their best to work harder on getting the last shards and preventing anymore distortions from occurring. During their busy schedule, though, they are presented photographs from Miku, showing objects that resemble Yggdrasil, the World Tree. After seeing the photos, Sephiroth leaves to arrange a party to find Willis and the Star Life. To do so, he had to ask Daria to give him information on anyone close to him. She helps him in exchange for assistance for the security room. Once the deal is sealed, Daria reveals Mahna already set up a team to find Willis. When he returns to the other guardians, he tells them how Mahna was one step ahead of them. He even senses a presence watching them. He tried grabbing for it, but there was nothing there.

Sephiroth starts to become more aware of the appearance of the Mad Hatter and Mahna's strange behavior more than his normal job. He, along with Miku and the guardians, try their best to find out everything they can. They even warn everyone who would have residence on the fifth floor to vacate the area until further notice, a decision Mahna didn't approve of. The investigation on the whole castle begins. Anyone who had experienced a strange phenomenon recently was interrogated by everyone. Finally, Sephiroth would learn of the disturbance on the fifth floor first hand as strange vines and roots attack him. He manages to escape with everyone else that was with him. As they escape, another distortion happens, this time it takes Fenrir away and replaces him with Ulrich. Daria assists Sephiroth once again, showing him footage of what had happened when the distortion occurred.

As time goes by, Sephiroth conspires with Nineve to try to confront Mahna and see if she'll step down from the commander position. Once again, Mahna knew of their plan. She wasn't going to leave without a fight. This would have to wait when an army of undead attacks. Sephiroth holds his own in this battle, but his partner-in-crime, Nineve, would be killed by a zombie. He revives her with help from Oshria and the Star Pendant. In a fit of rage and anxiety, Mahna steps down and appoints Sephiroth as the commander. This position is revoked minutes later when Luc convinces their brave leader to stay.

With the Mahna situation under control, it was time to find a way to stop the Mad Hatter. Deis, who had been previously sent to them through a time distortion, assists everyone in the castle find his lair through the distortion on the fifth floor. Once inside Yggdrasil, the hatter's test began. Everyone was separated into groups and into each sphere of Yggdrasil. Sephiroth and the Guardians were the first group to fight against one of the ten Archangels, Sandalphon. Sephiroth cleaves the snake angel in half with his sword. However, the angel survived and became two separate angels: Ofnir and Svafnir. This battle was a little tougher, and it resulted in Cloud losing control over his wing. Sephiroth uses his Descend Heartless Angel spell to drain the snakes of their power before Harle and Corra destroyed them. Their next challenge would be in the form of Michael. This angel was nothing like Sandalphon and held his own against them all. Michael was later defeated and killed by Cloud's Omni-Slash. Once all the angels were destroyed, the groups were reunited in the Mad Hatter's throne room. Before they could fight him, the twin jesters Zorn and Thorn attack. Sephiroth is one of the people who isn't trapped in the jesters' thorn prison. With the twins defeated, they reveal the passageway to the hatter. Sephiroth stays behind by order of Mahna and the Star Warriors. After they defeated the Midgard Serpent, the hatter, now revealed as Mun, gives the Toran Army the Star Life and Star Spear.

Once the Toran Army returns to the castle, Sephiroth gives Daria the assistants she needed. However, he had secretly paid them to drive her completely nuts until she resigned her position to another. Days later, Sephiroth participates in the Reforging Ceremony. Unfortunately, the ritual failed courtesy of Viki.

U-TIC Organization Arc

Sephiroth is the one to discover Xadron messing with the Star Spear. He was going to attack him, but Oshria stopped him to keep the shards in one peace. He is pulled forward 4000 years into the future because of Xadron disturbing the spear. Sephiroth doesn't play a major role in this arc.

Hyrule Arc

Sephiroth assists his comrades in the war battle rematch against the redeads when they emerge. However, they were being led by a mysterious man, Schwarzes, this time around. After Loki goes berserk, Sephiroth and a few other members of the Toran Army interrogate him for answers. Not even Sephiroth could make him talk. Almost a day later, Sephiroth would travel with the Toran Army to Hyrule to prevent Xadron from destroying their country. Their quest led them to the Temple of Time, just in time to assist Link to battle against the man they thought would be his destroyer. Their efforts were futile, no matter how hard they tried. Not even Sephiroth's Guardian powers could harm him.

With Xadron gone, Sephiroth joined with his comrades to explain the tale of the Black Hearts to Princess Zelda and the Sages of Hyrule. With the tale told, Xadron reappears with his Eternal Chain group. Once the Toran Army escaped from Hyrule Castle, Sephiroth was chosen to accompany Spyro and the others to the Fire Temple when the time came. Inside, Sephiroth helps Spyro, now piloting El-Renmazuo, against the fire dragon, Volvagia.

Once all the temples and sages are purified, it was time to begin the war on Xadron. First, the Toran Army traveled to Gerudo Valley to stop Weiß. Sephiroth is seen in the battlefield slaughtering demons that the albino would summon. After Yuber was purified of the demon Agares, Sephiroth leads a war unit against Rot's demon army. He battles their leader, Hesperus, and kills him easily.

Eve of the Climax

Sephiroth is having tea with the other Guardians and Oshria before the final battle begins. They are joined by Corey and Winona as soon as they start. In their conversation, Sephiroth gives Corey, what Harle claims, is the first compliment he ever gave anyone. When Corey asks Sephiroth about a man named Xiru, Sephiroth denies ever meeting such a person. He nearly pushes the two out, which came off as weird to them.

Final Battle Against Xadron

Sephiroth stays out of the main battle against Xadron and helps the other soldiers out on the battlefield outside the castle.

Jiendo Arc

After the celebration banquet is ruined, Oshria and her Guardians are showed a hidden chamber underneath the Temple of Time uncovered by Rauru. It's during this trip Sephiroth reveals his blood memory had indeed awakened overtime. He is the real Sephiroth everyone knows in the "Final Fantasy" series, but at the same time he's his own individual. Once Zelda, Link, and the Star Warriors are brought into the chamber, Sephiroth helps in the successful Reforging Ceremony of the Radiant Star. At the same time he discovers Spyro is to be his apprentice in the future. This victory is short-lived when Xadron forces Corey to give the star to a catatonic Winona, who becomes the Beast Jiendo. When she comes into existence, Sephiroth knocks Corey out to prevent him from unlocking her true power. Their efforts are in vain when Corey escapes from the Toran Army and merges with Jiendo. When Corey wishes time to be completely erased, Sephiroth is seen during his mental breakdown.

During the battle against Xadron, Sephiroth, along with the other Stars of Destiny, use their powers to wound the Nobody drastically. He makes another appearance at Kakariko Village to listen to Corey's story of what had happened in the temple.
